Our Pastor
Pastor Barry Cullen was born in 1958 in Madisonville, Ky. He was reared in a General Baptist family and attended a General Baptist church his entire life. Barry began serving in the church at an early age. He started leading the church choir at Beech Grove General Baptist when he was 9 years old and often sang solos in his home church and other churches in the area. When Barry was 14 God called him into the ministry, but it was a call he did not answer until he was 19. At 20 years of age he became pastor of Pleasant Union General Baptist Church in Beulah, KY He served there for 5 years and in 1985, feeling a need to further his education, he resigned to attend Oakland City University. While at OCU he served as pastor of Mt. Olive Church in Heilman, IN. After graduation, Barry decided to answer the call to become pastor of the Providence General Baptist Church in Providence, Ky. He began his pastorate there in the fall of 1988, and he will celebrate his 31st year of service there in October.
Barry has served on several short-term missions. He has ministered in Honduras, Mexico and in the Philippines on several occasions.
Denominationally, he has served on the Council of Associations and in during his tenure there acted as chairperson of the Personnel and the Evaluation Committees.
Barry and his wife of 42 years, Sherry, have 2 children Kami and Dustin. They are also blessed with 3 grandchildren: Hailey, age 14; Elijah, age 9; and Weston, age 7.
